A cowboy is riding through the middle of the desert with no visible destination on the horizon. All he knows is that he needs to get to the next town before 5pm. As he rides along he comes upon an Indian with his eyes closed, lying naked on his back, with his ding-dong sticking straight up

It’s been busy once again on the Chicago sporting scene. The Bulls submitted a valiant effort on Saturday night and much like Inigo Montoya they are now able to die the death that they were meant to at the six-fingered hand of the Miami Heat. Additionally the Blackhawks received a wake up call this afternoon

Quite a weekend around these parts wasn’t it? At least on the sporting scene that is. I watched parts of the NFL Draft, the parts that I could make out on the screen after I put my remote through it Thursday night when Roger Goodell read the name “Kyle Long” but I digress. As Saturday

We’ve all got them. It’s unfortunate but true. Here are a few of mine: When I hear someone speak with an accent I can’t help but mimic it. I’m pretty sure it comes off as very insulting to the individual but you have to believe me when I say that I have no control over

Usually I save the links and videos for Friday but I’m working on another little project to go up two days from now and I can’t in good conscience keep these following two items to myself much longer. Please join me in enjoying the following… The Boston Marathon bombing was obviously a horrible trajedy. It’s

Wait… don’t click away. This isn’t the schticky ESPN program, and Woody Paige is no where to be found in these annals. I want to take a quick loop around Chicago sports this morning as I think each of our teams currently finds themselves in a defining moment for the 2013 calendar year. I would

In this edition of our Friday Fun column I thought I’d summarize the week on the internet while demonstrating how all of our world is interconnected. Confused? Good. Let me show you what I’m talking about… Last night the Blackhawks clinched the #1 seed in the Western Conference without having to tie their skates. This is important

Earlier today during a chat on ESPNChicago.com a rather savvy reader asked Blackhawks beat reporter Scott Powers a particularly enlightened question… Based on his response it would appear that the question was just a little too good for the forum in fact. So I thought I would take it upon myself to do the digging

It’s been a long time coming but I think the day is finally here. With wars coming to an end and an economy on the mend many of the major crisis in the world have been brought to a simmer and the news of the day has turned to internal social issues. Courts from California

My belief is that religion was created to bring order to a chaotic world and maybe a way to say “this happens” because our God wants it this way. It was hard to understand what was happening during a meteor shower without science being present during those periods. Without the creation of religion though. Who says what is right or wrong? Those beliefs that are instilled to a majority of people through church when they are younger. It sticks with them through life, even after they make their own choice if there is a God or not.

Well said. My read on the quote is that Lincoln is acknowledging some degree of human conscience within us all. He really doesn’t care whether you pray to God, Allah, or no one at all; his point is that if it feels right inside of you then it’s right. Similarly if you’re doing something wrong then you know it internally as well.
I’ve never met someone (over the age of 12) that doesn’t have a warm feeling in their chest after they completed a shift serving food at a soup kitchen or performing some degree of charity. It FEELS right and thus your inner being tells you so. Similarly, even when performing an essentially victimless crime like eating the last donut or taking something without asking, something inside you makes you unconsciously look around before performing the act checking to make sure no one else is watching. That’s that same conscience acknowledging that you know what you are about to do is wrong. We all have that internal mechanism and it’s just a matter of to what degree do we listen to it. Being true to that feeling is the only religion that matters to Abe
