Roll Out The Cup
Sep 26th
When the puck drops next Tuesday night at the United Center to officially start the 2013-14 NHL season, it will have been exactly 99 days since they circle the ice in Boston with Lord Stanley hoisted above their heads. By far and away that is the short gap between celebration and the beginning of a next campaign in the history of North American professional sports.
Historically, the summer after winning a Stanley Cup is fraught with parties and appearances that make things like “training” and phrases such as “recovery” or “rest” just become buzz words in the grand scheme of things. More >

Oh The Audacity

There’s a real air of confidence coming out of Halas Hall these days and it’s bordering on the brink of cockiness. Apparently this Bears defensive coaching staff thinks they know something the rest of the NFL doesn’t and they’re starting to flaunt it.
When Lovie Smith came to the Bears in 2004 as their first year head coach the defense was predicated on Ted Washington and Keith Traylor clogging up the middle of the line while Brian Urlacher, Warrick Holdman, and Roosevelt Colvin cleaned up the scraps. I usually save my video links for Fridays but I did not get home from my hockey game Monday night until 2am Tuesday morning, and I have been off ever since. I basically passed out during our HR Flex Spending Account meeting this morning – and may have allocated $5,000 of my pre-tax income to a spend-it-or-lose-it gamble – and it’s been all downhill since then. I have my trusty dog by my side and a glass of Malbec in hand while we sit down for what apparently is the biggest night in Detroit during the 21st century. That’s kind of sad isn’t it? ESPN already showed a stat where the Lions went 5-47 combined from Week 10 of the 2007 season through Week 13 of 2010. That’s just pitiful. It’s up to the Bears to remind these people that no matter what the More >
Ughhh…

It’s late Thursday night and I’m sitting in my Boston hotel room forcing this at you because I put you, the reader, ahead of my own well being. Sure I have a big presentation in the morning that I should be getting rested for, but my readers need me. How else are you going to know where to place your NFL gambling money if I’m not picking the wrong side of the Bears game? So don’t expect much here but I do have some wrongs to right for you before we hit the weekend…
